EBRAINS Webinar
ONLINE
Discover the potential of collaborative neuroscience in the "The EBRAINS Project: A Gateway to Collaborative Neuroscience" webinar on February 12th. Prof. Petra Ritter will introduce EBRAINS, an innovative digital infrastructure facilitating brain research, highlighting its tools, resources, and commitment to ethical research practices. This free event, organized by CASTIEL2, is an invaluable opportunity for National Competence Centers and European Centres of Excellence to explore collaborative possibilities.
The landscape of neuroscience is on the brink of a transformative era, thanks to initiatives like EBRAINS. The upcoming webinar, "The EBRAINS Project: A Gateway to Collaborative Neuroscience" scheduled for the 12th of February from 2.30pm to 3.30pm (CET), is a prime example of this exciting development.
This enlightening webinar is organized by the Coordination and Support Action (CSA) CASTIEL2. Since its launch in 2020, CASTIEL has been instrumental in fostering a European network of National Competence Centers (NCCs) in high-performance computing (HPC), working in tandem with EuroCC. CASTIEL’s initiative is crucial in leveling HPC expertise across Europe and finding synergies to bolster HPC competences continent-wide.
EBRAINS: A Pioneering Research Infrastructure in Neuroscience
EBRAINS, inaugurated in 2019 from the EU-funded Human Brain Project, has rapidly become a key player in neuroscience research. By 2021, it earned a place on the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) Roadmap, marking a significant step towards becoming a sustainable research infrastructure.
As an open research platform, EBRAINS offers an extensive toolkit for brain research, including diverse data sets, a multilevel brain atlas, modeling tools, and access to high-performance computing and advanced robotics. Designed for interoperability, it supports a wide range of neuroscience studies.
Managed by EBRAINS AISBL, an international non-profit based in Brussels, the infrastructure operates through a central hub connected to 11 National Nodes across Europe, fostering collaborative and cross-border research in neuroscience.

Prof. Petra Ritter: At the Forefront of EBRAINS
Kicking off the webinar will be an insightful presentation by our group leader Prof. Petra Ritter, and one of the EBRAINS coordinators.
Prof. Ritter's presentation will cover the objectives, achievements, and future plans of EBRAINS, offering valuable insights into how the project is merging cutting-edge technology with neuroscience to open up new avenues of research.
A Commitment to Open Science, Collaboration, and Ethical Research
EBRAINS, a proud member of the European Open Science Cloud association (EOSC), is at the forefront of advocating open science principles. This commitment, a central theme of the webinar, seeks to enhance collaboration in new research projects, infrastructure development, and the sharing of data and knowledge across disciplines and borders. Additionally, the webinar will highlight opportunities for National Competence Centers (NCCs) and European Centres of Excellence (CoEs) to engage with the EBRAINS vision and leverage its resources for groundbreaking research. Underpinning these collaborations is EBRAINS' dedication to Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) practices, ensuring that research is conducted ethically and benefits the public, a principle strongly championed by Prof. Petra Ritter.
